SIDEREAL STAIR

The Sidereal Stair is a strange, metal lattice structure found atop Mount Awaiss, along the immense Mt. range at the equator of Aurion. To all Aurionites, the Stair seems to have always been and will always be. Though, how it functions remains mysterious, as no written history exists that describes or explains it.

What is known for sure is that the modern-day function of The Sidereal Stair is to rid Aurion of its most violent and remorseless criminals. Every seven years, like clockwork, the Stair opens and a series of natural phenomena occur resulting in the removal of those who’ve been convicted and condemned to climb. It is a severe punishment, publically viewed as harsher than a death sentence. Its exact method and internal workings remain quite mysterious to both Aurion’s leadership and general public but the vile criminals always arrive every seven years and the rite is continued, lest the planet face the ire of Father Baethyl.

Criminals sentenced to climb the Stair often turn up living among the indigenous lifeforms on Aurion’s desolate, outer moon of Renque. And, for this reason, Renque is known as Aurion’s prison moon.
